2008 Show and Teaching Schedule

April 4 and 5, 2008 BREAKDOWN PRINTING Stop by Friday (4th) at your convenience to prepare your screens between 3PM-8PM. (shouldn't take more than 60 minutes) so they dry before Saturday (5th) a full day of printing 9AM-4PM.

Here's a new art cloth technique scaled down for quilters and a simple, quick workshop. Bring your doodles, sketches, favorite shapes or patterns by the studio on Friday afternoon/early evening. Instructor will guide you in painting them on silk screen (provided, 6 inch squares) They will dry overnight and be available for printing Saturday. The fun will be how they "breakdown" in unpredictable, accidental or chance rates as you pull dyes through your screens to pattern your own art cloth.

Beginners to advanced welcome, bring a spirit of adventure. Class size limited to 10

Cost: $45 plus a $15 materials fee (3 screens, three yards of cotton and dyes necessary to experiment)

April 11 and 26, 2008 SHIBORI FOR MACHINE STITCHERS: Part I Indigo

Quilters have a unique understanding of their machines, threads, tensions, stitch patterns and lengths AND how to finesse the machine stitching process. This workshop offers a shibori experience with indigo and machine stitching. Indigo is quick and easy. The "what if" questions in shibori experiments are answered nearly immediately in a blue and white contrast. These answers shape further "what if" experimenting....all in a creative, new way of patterning cloth by use of the controlled machine stitch for resist.

Intro: Stop by Friday April 11th, between 3PM-8PM to study Jay's shibori collection including machine stitched resists. (20-30 minutes and you should have the idea) Spend 15 days preparing stitched examples at home, in the peace and serenity of your own space. Then return all day, Saturday 26th with your machines or a shared machine and spend the day dyeing with indigo.

Beginners to advanced welcome, no dye or indigo experience necessary.

Cost: $45 plus $5 materials fee (indigo vat, woad vat) Bring your own fabrics. Over-dyeing is possible on pastel shades, vat prefers well washed.
